Housequarters Doer-Ship - 2023 - Accepting Applications for Full-time and Summer Opportunites.

The Housequarters Doer-Ship: An apprenticeship like No Other:

Learn everything about a home and homeownership…and become ready to help all homeowners become smarter homeowners with real, hands-on skills. The Housequarter Doer-Ship is a program designed to teach you how to become the next generation home pro by learning about and “Doing” everything related to homeownership. Our program is for people who are not afraid to get their hands dirty, are willing to work hard, want to learn, and have a desire to undertake residential-centric home projects, with a focus toward the carpentry and project management. By the end, you will be in a strong position to be one of the best home renovation, repair, maintenance and management pros around, earning a terrific living and helping homeowners become smarter homeowners. No experience necessary, just a desire to learn.

How the program works:

The full Doer-Ship is a 3-year program where you will learn the skills needed to do everything for a home from the ground up, as well as garner insights into the general “Ownership” aspects of a property such as insurance, brokering, financing, and general maintenance. By the end of the program, you will have an understanding of all aspects of homeownership. In addition, there are full “Project Properties” which will become a major part of the program where you will be able to see, do, and learn everything from the day the property is purchased until it is completed.

Level 1: Learning the basics:

Learn basic skills, provide general labor and support the leads. Begin to learn tool skills, how to do some basic projects, and complete several trade shadow experiences under the supervision of a pro. Evaluation with set, transparent goals will decide moving to the next level.

Level 2: Team Member:

Be a project team member, working in collaboration with the team for all aspects of the work being done, with some more independent work. Complete more trade shadows, and learn a bit more about other trades and how they all interact. Evaluation with set, transparent goals will decide moving to the next level.

Level 3: Doer-Ship Team Lead:

Continue to develop and hone skills, taking the lead on some smaller projects, or assisting on leading bigger projects. Continue to grow your knowledge of other trades and how they all interact. Begin classes toward completing your studies for a Construction Supervisor License.

Graduation:

Graduate to be a full lead within Housequarters, or potentially prepare to think about your own operation, with opportunities for support from the Housequarters network. The program will conclude with a dedicated project and you will be issued a certificate of completion.

Summer Program:

Similar to the levels and experience above, but as more of a sampling for the summer (no long term commitment, just the summer)
